William Paterson Women's Basketball Tops Waynesburg in Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, 84-44

YORK, Pa. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (1-0) picked up an 84-44 victory against Waynesburg (0-1) to open the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic hosted by York (Pa.) Nov. 14.   

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • It was all WP from the start as the Pioneers shot 11-of-18 (.611) from the field and 4-of-6 (.667) from deep to build a 20-point lead (29-9) at the end of the first quarter.
  • WP extended its advantage in the second quarter, using an 18-1 run over a span of 7:33 before going into the half leading by 31 (47-16).
  • After outscoring Waynesburg, 19-6, in the third frame, the Pioneers led by 44 (66-22).
  • WP closed things out in the fourth quarter to earn the 84-44 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Senior Renee Wells poured in a game-high 20 points on 8-of-15 (.533) shooting with three boards, two assists and a steal.
  • Sophomore Kaelyn Gowdy went 5-of-8 (.625) from the floor, finishing with a career-high 15 points to pair with three steals.
  • Junior Mattison Chiera had an 11-point outing with four boards and four assists.
  • Senior Patty Walsh and junior Jada Jacobs logged eight points and seven rebounds apiece.
  • Jacobs added four assists to her stat line.
