WAYNE, N.J. – Four Pioneers scored in double figures as the William Paterson women's basketball team (5-3, 3-1 NJAC) coasted to a 77-41 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) home win against Rutgers-Newark (3-7, 0-4 NJAC) Dec. 11 at the Sports and Recreation Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- William Paterson owned a seven-point advantage (19-12) after the first quarter before outscoring the Scarlet Raiders, 19-12, in the second frame to take a 14-point lead (38-24) into the half.
- The Pioneers opened the third quarter on a 17-6 run and pushed the lead to 25 (55-30) with 4:44 on the clock.
- The WP lead grew to as large as 34 (71-47) with 5:26 left to play following a layup by freshman Leilani Pinder. The Pioneers maintained their large advantage the rest of the way and earned the 77-41 home victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Sophomore Mattison Chiera went 5-for-8 (.625) from the field for 12 points to pair with three rebounds.
- Junior Patty Walsh had 12 points and a team-high eight boards.
- Senior Brianna Smith finished with 12 points on 4-of-7 (.571) shooting with four assists and two steals.
- Sophomore Jada Jacobs logged a career-high 12 points and six rebounds while adding three steals.
- Junior Renee Wells recorded five boards, a team-best seven assists and three steals.

- William Paterson will head to Glassboro, N.J., Saturday, Dec. 14, for a 1:00 p.m. conference game at Rowan.
