MADISON, Wisconsin -- Alverno College trailed after each of the first three quarters, but outscored host Edgewood College by 24 points in the fourth for the 81-65 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference victory Saturday evening inside the Edgedome.
A Donna Zehner steal followed by a Julie Gallegos 3-pointer with just under six minutes to play in the final quarter gave the Inferno (6-6, 3-4 NACC) its first lead since the opening minutes of action, and the lead for good.
Gallegos scored a season-high 21 points to lead all scorers as the senior made 9-of-11 free throws and 4-of-6 3s in Alverno's first game of the new year.
Mollie Mikyska added 13 points, while rookies Mackenzie Mathies and Zehner had 12 and 10 as the Inferno put up over 80 points for the second time this season -- the first time also a victory over the Eagles (2-10, 1-6) exactly one month prior.
Zehner and Gabby Hood helped Alverno win the rebounding battle, 40-34, with nine boards apiece, while Hood also tied her season high with a game-best nine assists as the visitors connected for 25 assists on 27 made field goals.
Edgewood was led by Rachel Pope's 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
After five straight road games, the Inferno finally returns home to Reiman Gymnasium Tuesday evening against visiting Aurora University.
