Senior Anna Smith had 17 points and 10 boards for her seventh career double double to lead No. 8-ranked St. Thomas to Saturday's 75-58 women's basketball win over St. Benedict at Schoenecker Arena.
The Tommies (6-0 overall, 2-0 MIAC) sank a season-high 10 treys, shot 51 percent from the field and had only 10 turnovers. Their 6-0 start in the program's best in 16 seasons, since the 1998-99 Tommies began the year 10-0.
Hannah Hughes matched her career high as she sank four 3-pointers and finished with 12 points. Jenna Dockter had 10 points, a career-high eight assists, and three steals. Kaitlin Langer added eight points in 11 minutes off the bench.
UST led 39-19 at halftime and pushed the lead to 27 midway through the second half.
The Blazers (2-4, 0-2) played UST even on the boards at 30-30 but had 18 turnovers and made just 7-of-19 the foul line. They used a 16-4 run in the closing stretch to pull within 15 points and shot 61 percent in the second half to reach 47 percent on the game. Mattie Lueck finished with 18 points, five rebounds and three assists.
St. Thomas plays Dec. 13 at Augsburg and returns home at the end of finals week to play Wartburg on Dec. 19.
