Slaughter says, "We came out in the second half and just played well together. We did not want to have them to steal the momentum of the game. Our team will always play hard."
On senior day, six seniors were recognized as Slaughter, Latin, and Paigen Gilford all had affects on the outcome of the game. Slaughter finished with 13 points and eight rebounds with five blocks while Latin finished with 14 points and six rebounds. Gilford added seven points shooting 50 percent from the floor. Jaimie Kadlecek led the team with 16 points as she went 11-of-12 from the foul line with one three-pointer. UTD's Christina Brosnahan had 20 points to lead all scorers.
After the eighth tie of the game at 34, Slaughter made only her second three-pointer of the year to kick start the 9-0 run at the 14:17 mark. It took less than two minutes for ETBU to score the nine points and swing the momentum in their favor. Kadlecek then hit two free throws 44 seconds later and then Latin connected with back-to-back buckets within 35 seconds for the nine-point lead, 43-34. ETBU had their largest lead of 13, 49-36, with 7:45 left on a Patrice Parker jumper.
UTD came back to within five, twice, 62-57, with 44 seconds left but ETBU went 4-of-6 from the foul line to seal the win. Gilford nailed both of her free throws with 39 seconds left and made 1-of-2 with four seconds on the clock. Leonard also made one free throw in the final 44 seconds as ETBU went on for the win.
The game was tied five times in the first half with the final tie at 23 before UTD finished the final 2:52 on a 7-0 run for a 30-23 halftime lead. ETBU answered in the start of the second half on a 7-0 run to tie the game back at 30 for the sixth time. Slaughter, Leonard, and Kadlecek all had buckets in the run to tie the game before ETBU made their run to secure the game.
After shooting only 28 percent in the first half, ETBU made 60 percent of their shots in the second half finishing shooting 40 percent overall. They made 38 percent of their three-point shots and 70 percent of their free throws. UTD finished shooting 32 percent from the floor, 22 percent from the arc, and 75 percent from the stripe. UTD out rebounded ETBU, 43-37, and had only 13 turnovers to ETBU's 15. ETBU also had eight blocks in the game led by Slaughter's five.
ETBU will finish their final four games on the road in the ASC East as they travel to Tyler, Texas, on Tuesday, February 5th, to take on Texas-Tyler.
