MENOMONIE (February 2, 2013) - Sami Schoeder (Jr, Durand) has been hot or cold all season long. Tonight, she was hot.

Schoeder shot 6-of-11 from the field including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc as UW-Stout (9-12, 3-9 WIAC) defeated UW-Platteville (5-17, 1-12 WIAC), 71-57, Saturday night at Johnson Fieldhouse. Schoeder's 18 points led all players and led the Blue Devils to their first win in seven games.

Stout got out to an early lead with three-pointers from Katelynne Folkers (So, Fall Creek) and Schoeder, giving the Blue Devils an 8-2 lead. After Platteville worked the score back to a 9-9 tie, Stout went on a 7-1 run to grab another six-point lead. Haley Froehlich (So, Mondovi) added five points during the two-minute stretch.

The Blue Devils were able to build their lead to as much as eight points before half, but a 14-6 Platteville run to close the half knotted the score at 28 at the break.

In the second half, it was Platteville who got the hot hand early. They jumped out of the gates with a 5-0 run to take their largest lead of the game just a few minutes into the second half. But from then on, it was all Blue Devils.

Over the next 11 minutes, Stout went on a 27-6 run to grab an insurmountable 16-point lead. Schoeder was instrumental in the run, draining three three-pointers, the first of which started the game-sealing run. Over the final six minutes, Stout never led by less than 10 as they ran away from the last-place Pioneers.

Froehlich ended the game with 12 points, as did Kayla Windt (Sr, Pence), who shot 4-of-8 from the field. Shelby Sterba (So, Tony) and Folkers each grabbed a team-best six rebounds, two shy of Platteville's Alyssa Krajco, who led all players with eight boards. Krajco also leaded her team with 14 points.

After sub-.300 shooting percentages in three of their last five games, Stout turned it around to shoot 25-of-60 (.417) from the field tonight. They were 52 percent from the field in the second half, while Platteville connected on just 7 of 26 (.269) attempts after the break.

Stout will remain home this week, hosting UW-La Crosse, Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. La Crosse won the teams' previous matchup, 69-58.
