Wiedt's Season-High 26 Takes Her Over 1,000 Points and Puts #16 Mount Union Back in First Place

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union senior guard Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) became the 11th player in school history to score over 1,000 points as her game-high 26 points led the No. 16 ranked Purple Raiders to an 85-71 win over Ohio Northern in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Saturday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

Mount Union (12-1, 5-1 OAC) now holds a half game lead in first place over Ohio Northern (11-3, 5-2 OAC) and Otterbein (11-3, 5-2 OAC) in the conference standings and runs its home winning streak to 17 games.

Along with Wiedt, junior point guard Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) had 25 points and senior forward Amanda Rose (Green/Green) had 10 points and five rebounds for the Raiders.

Morgan Dumbaugh hit five three-pointers and 17 points to lead four in double figures for the Polar Bears.

Wiedt hit three three-pointers and her and LaMattina each scored 13 in a first half that saw the Raiders rally from an 11-point deficit to take a 44-42 halftime lead.

Ohio Northern hit 10 of its first 11 shots and a Katie Jones jumper gave them a 22-11 lead with 13:31 to play in the first half.  Mount Union would then go a 15-6 run to get back to within two, 26-28 at the 9:42 mark.  The Raiders would tie the game up at 33 then five lead changes would happen before back-to-back jumpers from LaMattina and Rose closed out the half.

Mount Union opened the second half on an 11-3 run to go up 10 points, 55-45, but Northern rallied again and eventually tied the game at 57 with 11 minutes to play.

LaMattina then scored five straight points and Wiedt made it eight in a row with a three-pointer at 9:25 left to make it 65-57 and the Raiders were never threatened the rest of the way.

Mount Union closes out the current three-game homestand next Wednesday (Jan. 11) against Baldwin-Wallace at 7:30 pm at The MAAC.  The game will be broadcast LIVE on the radio on WDPN AM 1310 in Alliance and simulcast online.
