NEWARK, N.J. – An efficient shooting night helped lift the William Paterson men's basketball team (5-4, 1-3 NJAC) to a 68-56 conference road victory at Rutgers-Newark (2-7, 0-3 NJAC) Dec. 10.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • An Ethan Paul layup at the 8:07 mark sparked an 11-0 run, allowing the Pioneers to build a 28-15 lead with 5:08 remaining in the first half. WP carried an 11-point (35-24) advantage into the locker room after holding the Scarlet Raiders to 29.6 (8-27) percent shooting from the floor and outscoring Rutgers-Newark by a 32-14 count in the paint during the first half.
  • When the Scarlet Raiders made it a two-possession game at 58-52 with 3:39 to play, freshman guard Ty'Shawn Pearson converted a layup and junior forward Fred Orock Jr. put down a pair of dunks to push WP ahead by double digits (62-52, 1:55), helping to seal the win.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Paul scored a season-best 14 points, chipping in seven rebounds, while Orock finished with 13 tallies and a team-best eight boards.
  • Pearson dished out six assists while collecting six points and five rebounds.
  • The Pioneers finished 29-for-55 (.527) from the field and 5-for-10 (.500) from three-point range, limiting Rutgers-Newark to a 35.1 (20-57) percent effort overall and 11.1 (2-18) percent shooting from beyond the arc.
