Craig McGee Makes History as Rose-Hulman Men's Basketball Tops Manchester

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Craig McGee completed one of the rarest statistical feats in NCAA Division III men's basketball to highlight a 79-56 men's basketball victory at Manchester University on Friday night.

McGee became the first player in nearly 120 years of Rose-Hulman men's basketball to surpass career totals of 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists.  McGee currently ranks No. 1 in school history in assists (501), No. 15 in points (1,250) and has grabbed 540 career rebounds.

The senior led a balanced offensive attack that propelled the Fightin' Engineers to a convincing victory.  McGee scored 15 points on 6-8 from the field and 3-3 from three-point range, while contributing six rebounds and six assists.  Jacob Back added 12 points on 4-5 from the field and 3-3 on the free throw line, and Dillon Duff contributed 12 points on 2-3 from three-point range.

Trey Wurtz also reached double figures with 10 points on 4-7 from the field.  Max Chaplin (eight points), Samvit Ram (five points, team-high seven rebounds) and Zach Callahan (five points) also pitched in significantly for the Rose-Hulman offense.  Isaac Farnsworth added six rebounds in his first college start.

Rose-Hulman shot 45% from the field for the game, including 57% in the second half.  The Fightin' Engineer defense was the story, however, holding Manchester to just 36% for the game and outrebounding the Spartans 47-26.  Rose-Hulman also shot a perfect 12-12 on the free throw line.

Rose-Hulman started the game on a 13-2 run that was capped by a three-pointer from Wurtz and a three-point play by Callahan.  The lead reached 15 points at the half at 36-21, and Rose-Hulman maintained a double-figure lead the rest of the way.

With the victory, Rose-Hulman improves to 7-2 on the season while Manchester fell to 2-7.  The Fightin' Engineers will celebrate Senior Day for Jacob BackZach CallahanTim HarrisTaylor HeilCraig McGee and Trey Wurtz on Saturday (Feb. 13) at 3:15 pm, prior to the rematch between Rose-Hulman and Manchester at 3:30 pm.
