ROSEMONT, Pa. - The Rosemont Ravens men's basketball team scored a program-high 93 points en-route to an exciting 93-88 win over the Keystone College Giants this afternoon at Alumnae Hall.
For the Ravens (12-10, 8-7 CSAC), it was the first time the team has defeated Keystone and for the Giants (17-3, 11-2 CSAC), it was only their second conference defeat of the season.
The Ravens started out with a 6-0 lead on a bucket from Harrison Carsillo (Sr./Collingswood, NJ) and a pair of field goals from Justin Chaney (Jr./Williamstown, NJ). Keystone answered to tie the score at 6-6 with 16:34 left in the half. The Ravens extended their lead twice to seven points, but the Giants seemed to have the answer each time Rosemont tried to get separation. A dunk from Derrick Carter (Jr./Millville, NJ) put an exclamation point on the game to put the Ravens in front by 14, 47-33, with 3:10 left before the break.
The first half of the game was punctuated by Rosemont's torrid shooting. The Ravens opened up hot, outshooting Keystone 54% to 40% from the field. Rosemont shot a blistering 6-for-10 from downtown in the first period. On the Keystone side, the Giants shot 10-for-10 from the foul line as the half ended with the Ravens ahead 51-41.
The game slowly tightened up in the second half as Keystone chipped away at Rosemont's lead. The Giants outscored the Ravens 20-9 to take their first lead of the game at 61-60 with 12:13 left. It appeared that Keystone had the momentum. The Ravens did not fold, however, and both teams continued to make a run at each other. The second half featured eight lead changes and seven tie scores.
With 3:13 remaining, Keystone's Malcolm Boone made two free throws to tie the game at 84-84. Rosemont's Tremell Green (Jr./BOK/Philadelphia) answered with a layup to put the Ravens back on top 86-84. A trey from the Giants' Miles Dargan tied the score at 88-88 with 1:53 left. Rosemont's answer came from Chaney who buried a jumper to put the Ravens ahead 90-88 with 1:36 left.
Rosemont's defense forced a Giants turnover, but although the Ravens did not convert from the field, Chaney was fouled and made one to put the Ravens up 91-88 with 0:25 left on the clock. A flurry of shots ensued on the Keystone offensive end, but ultimately Tremell Green was fouled with five seconds left on the clock. Green sank both free throws to end the scoring.
Rosemont needed a good shooting day to have a shot at Keystone, and they answered the call by shooting 55% from the field on the afternoon. The Giants also shot well at 46%.
Both teams placed five players in double-figures. For the Ravens, Chaney scored 19 to lead all scorers. Green added 18 points while DeAndre Jordan (Jr./Henry E. Lackey/Marbury, Md.) had 15, Harrison Carsillo notched 14 and Derrick Carter added 11. Carsillo also grabbed 10 rebounds to earn his fourth double-double of the campaign.
Keystone's Malcolm Boone and Mike Kelly each scored 18. Boone's 13 boards gave him a double-double. Other Giants in double-figures today were Kenneth Hardnett (15), Duncan Lunsford (12) and Tim Benedix (10).
The Ravens play their last home game of the regular season on Wednesday, 2/8 against the Centenary Cyclones in a CSAC contest on Ravens Rally Night. The men's game is scheduled for an 8:00 tip-off.
