No. 2 Washington U. opened conference play with a win over Chicago on a Saturday featuring the latest chapters in two of Division III's biggest rivalries.

Washington U. outrebounded Chicago by 17 and shot 88 percent from the free throw line as the Bears put away the Maroons 87-72. Jordan Thompson had 27 points for Washington U, which never trailed in the game. It was Nancy Fahey's 650th career win.

No. 9 Emory dominated Rochester 74-43 in a conference opener featuring two teams that made last year's NCAA tournament. The Eagles turned 30 Rochester turnovers into 29 points.

No. 3 Amherst sent No. 10 Williams home with an 0-2 record to start NESCAC play. The Lord Jeffs got balanced scoring from Cheyenne Pritchard (19 points), Ali Doswell (17) and Megan Robertson (17) in their 78-62 victory over the visiting Ephs, who lost at Trinity (Conn.) on Friday night. No. 25 Bowdoin defeated Wesleyan 65-45.

Courtney Euerle hit a jumper with seven seconds left and Maggie Weiers was unable to answer as homestanding St. Mary's (Minn.) knocked off No. 9 St. Thomas 56-54.

Babson showed it's still a force in the NEWMAC race by winning at Wheaton (Mass.), 70-53.  The Beavers went 0-7 out of conference, but are 5-3 in it. The Lyons have lost two straight after starting the season 12-0.

No. 1 DePauw hit the century mark for the first time in seven-plus seasons as the Tigers demolished Kenyon 100-59. DePauw has won 48 consecutive games, the fourth longest streak in Division III history. Washington U. has the overall record with 81 wins from 1998-2001.

Thomas More's dominance of the Presidents' Athletic Conference continued, as the No. 6 Saints rolled over Thiel 113-29. Sydney Moss had game highs with 23 points and seven rebounds, while Devin Beasley had 12 assists for the Saints, who improve to 13-0, 6-0 PAC.

The Engineers of WPI defeated the Engineers of MIT, 59-47. Sixth-ranked WPI is 12-1, 2-0 in the NEWMAC. Springfield bounced back from its loss to WPI on Wednesday night by upending No. 25 Babson 89-81 in overtime.

No. 8 Amherst defeated No. 5 Williams 84-73 behind 23 points apiece from Tom Killian and Connor Green, while Aaron Toomey had a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists.

Hope defeated Calvin 71-63 to improve its record at VanNoord Arena to 6-3. The Knights struggled against the Flying Dutch's length and missed several shots near the rim in the second half, allowing Hope to pull away for a relatively comfortable victory.

A battle of Capital Athletic Conference newcomers had a surprise outcome, as No. 14 Christopher Newport lost 63-60 in overtime at Penn State-Harrisburg. Tra Benefield was held to 14 points in 43 minutes, while the Lions improved to 6-7 despite shooting 5-for-23 from 3-point range and 14-for-26 from the line. (CNU was just 6-for-13 from the line.) In the other CAC Top 25 matchup, Wesley's AJ Tilghman hit a free throw with 1.2 seconds remaining to give the 16th-ranked Wolverines a 68-67 win over No. 17 Mary Washington.

Freshman guard Erick Loften-Harris hit a floater in the lane from the left side with 15 seconds lifting Montclair State to a 70-69 upset of No. 23 Richard Stockton. The win snaps the Ospreys' six-game winning streak. Montclair improves to 6-7 overall. William Paterson, which handed Richard Stockton its previous loss, fended off a late New Jersey City rally for a 69-66 NJAC win. Javae King-Gilchrist led all players with 22 points and six steals, and junior guard Sandy Burgos posted 19 points.

Wheaton (Ill.), which dropped out of the Top 25 this past week, made a case to be included anew by edging No. 12 Augustana 69-66 in overtime. The homestanding Thunder played just seven guys and got just four points from their bench. Peter Smither, Brayden Teuscher and Tyler Peters scored 16 points apiece.

Andy Dollman poured in a career-high 24 points off the bench to lead No. 19-ranked Marietta to a 97-86 win over Baldwin Wallace. The Yellow Jackets shot just 30% from the floor, including 1-of-13 from behind the arc, in the second half.

No. 20 Messiah went on a 15-0 run in the second half and Brad Bolen scored 23 points to lead the Falcons past Alvernia 89-78. The run broke open a 56-56 tie. No. 9 Wittenberg overcame five Hiram scorers in double figures, barely defeating the 3-12 Terriers 80-79 despite the homecourt advantage. Dave Macedo won his 300th career game, all with Virginia Wesleyan, as the No. 15 Marlins defeated Randolph 75-46. VWC held Randolph to just 15 first-half points in the win.

A wild game came to a thrilling conclusion for Goucher, as Troy DeShields converted a 3-point play with 4.4 seconds remaining in triple overtime to give the Gophers a 91-90 win over Moravian. Dubuque rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to remain undefeated, topping Central 74-67. "We were right there," Central coach Craig Douma said. "We put ourselves in a position to win, but we need to turn the corner. It came down to making shots and Dubuque made more." Dubuque forward Gage Heffernan scored a game-high 22 points and hauled in eight rebounds.

Kalamazoo shot 26-for-27 from the foul line in a 90-83 win at Olivet. Hilbert improved to 9-2, 4-1 in the AMCC with a 97-84 win vs. Mount Aloysius.
