The allegations sound like something out of a Division I school, not Division III. Glen Hedden, athletic director at Kean for 22 years, was fired after blowing the whistle on grade-changing taking place at the school, specifically in the women's basketball program.
A piece in the Newark Star-Ledger details the allegations, and Hedden's wrongful termination lawsuit against the university. The NCAA has been investigation the claims, including grades being changed so a player could maintain a 2.0 GPA.
As Dave D'Alessandro's column put it: "Why would such a thing be worth it? Start with this: That second maneuver allowed the player to suit up against top-ranked Amherst, and she torched them for 28 points in an 85-82 Kean victory."
Naimah Clemons scored 28 points in that win, playing 38 minutes. It was Amherst's only blemish in a national championship season, and it may soon get an asterisk at that.
