Amherst takes over top spot

Last spring Amherst went 32-1, losing to the eventual national champion in overtime. All five starters return.

In fact, all of last year's players return.

The Jeffs were balanced last season, with nobody playing even as many as 28 minutes per game and seven players averaging seven or more points. Amherst received 21 of the 25 first-place votes, with Hope getting three and defending champion Washington U. the remaining top nod.

Making its debut at No. 25 is St. Vincent, in its first season of eligibility for the poll after transition from the NAIA. The Bearcats went 23-5 last season and won the ECAC Southern Region tournament. St. Vincent is also eligible for the NCAA Tournament for the first time.
