No. 5 UW-Whitewater rallied from a 15-point halftime deficit to win at No. 1 UW-Stevens Point, sweeping the season series with a 61-58 victory.
The Pointers jumped on the Warhawks early, scoring the first seven points of the game and taking a 36-21 lead into the break. But the Warhawks outscored the Pointers 32-5 to start the second half. The Pointers rallied and took the lead briefly on two Ross Foreman free throws before Fletcher Dupree edged his shot over the rim with 18 seconds left to give the Warhawks the lead for good. Phil Negri led UW-Whitewater with 16 points, 14 of which came in the second half.
&&g-boxr&&No. 9 Randolph-Macon continues to struggle in conference play where it lost to Washington and Lee 65-57. The Yellow Jackets shot 1-for-23 from three-point land and have lost three of their last five. The schedule doesn't get any easier with No. 2 Guilford coming to town on Saturday. The Quakers kept rolling right past Roanoke on the road, 86-70.
No. 17 Franklin and Marshall only had one field goal in the final 2:16 of its game at Johns Hopkins. But the Diplomats made their free throws during that stretch and came home with a victory over the Blue Jays, 53-50. No. 16 William Paterson held New Jersey City to nine first-half points and went on to win its 17th consecutive game, 58-39. More men's finals.
On the women's side, No. 15 Messiah knocked off No. 6 Scranton 62-55 in a battle of perennially ranked Pennsylvania programs. The Lady Royals did not make a field goal until more than seven minutes into the game while the Falcons used crisp passing to set up open looks at the rim. Messiah led by 18 with four minutes left before Scranton made a late push. Julie Henninger led the Falcons with 18 points and her team outrebounded Scranton 51-32. No. 19 UW-Stevens Point returned the favor, beating No. 22 UW-Whitewater on the road, 68-51 behind 24 points from Andrea Flease.
Elsewhere No. 23 Lebanon Valley defeated Manhattanville 61-51 in the matchup of MAC conference leaders. The Flying Dutchmen are now 17-1. No. 21 Washington and Jefferson, who lost at home to Grove City earlier this season, pulled out a close game against the Wolverines on the road, 61-58. More women's scores.
Back on the men's side, Defiance put five players in double figures and defeated No. 10 Anderson 91-72 to end the Ravens' undefeated run through the HCAC. No. 12 St. Norbert continued to play stifling defense in beating Carroll 76-58. The Green Knights held the Pioneers 21 points below their season average. Dickinson won its first game of the season, and it was a doozy, beating Gettysburg 74-61. UW-La Crosse defeated UW-Stout 88-80 in double overtime, surviving a game-winning free-throw attempt from Julia Hirssig at the end of the first overtime.
St. Mary's (Minn.) beat Gustavus Adolphus 78-75, defeating the Gusties for the first time since Feb. 11, 1987, despite playing just seven players. Luther used a 17-2 run late in the game to seal a 50-45 win over Coe, sending the Kohawks to the 14th loss in their past 15 games. Pomona-Pitzer locked down archrival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 47-36, while Cabrini won its 10th game in a row, beating Eastern 80-71.
