Defending men's champion Amherst returns to the No. 1 spot in the D3hoops.com Top 25 in this week's poll, the first of the regular season.
The Lord Jeffs, who are 2-0 on the season, took over the top position from Wash U, which lost two games in the early going as well as point guard Sean Wallis to a broken leg. Wallis blogs about his injury, upcoming surgery and the team's response in the Daily Dose. Wallis talks about the rehab schedule and whether he'll attempt to push the timetable, pursue a medical redshirt, or graduate and move on with life -- decisions many Division III student-athletes must face.
&&b-boxr&&Wash U falls to No. 8. Amherst has 17 No. 1 votes, followed by UW-Stevens Point at No. 2, on the top spot of seven ballots. Guilford is ranked third, while Augustana holds down the No. 4 slot and takes the final first-place vote.
In women's action, the No. 1 votes are more consolidated, but still split among No. 1 Mary Washington, No. 2 Howard Payne, No. 3 Messiah and No. 4 Hope.
