Robin Potera-Haskins, whose season as women's head coach at Louisiana College ranged from a Division I upset to having 13 players walk out of practice in protest, has left for a job at NAIA Palm Beach Atlantic.
Palm Beach Atlantic, which spent half a season attempting to get into Division III, instead elected to attempt to join NCAA Division II.
Potera-Haskins spent one season as the Wildcats' coach, compiling an 8-16 record, a three-game improvement over 2005-06. Palm Beach Atlantic will be her third job in three seasons.
Thirteen players walked out of practice in midseason to meet with the school's athletic director, Tim Whitman. Seven returned to practice. Two starters did not: Carol Elder and Ashley Peairs. Elder has since transferred to the University of Mobile.
Player turnover was one factor cited by officials at Division I Montana State, when Potera-Haskins was forced out there in 2004, despite compiling a 54-34 record in three years.
"Coach Robin Potera-Haskins is an outstanding Christian and coach," LC president Joe Aguillard said in a statement released by the school on Feb. 2. "What she has been able to accomplish this season is phenomenal. She is someone who gives 110 percent all the time and she expects the same from the Lady Wildcats. I know that coach Haskins and the Lady Wildcats are working hard and have high hopes for the future."
The move came a month after the Wildcats posted the first upset of a Division I women's basketball team by a D-III team since 2003, beating McNeese State 61-57 in overtime.
The school hired Janice Joseph-Richard, a former Louisiana College player who was head coach at Division I San Jose State until this past season, when she took a leave of absence to be treated for breast cancer. She was 93-106 in seven seasons.
Before going to San Jose, Joseph-Richard served as coach at Xavier in New Orleans, racking up a 159-34 record in six seasons.
