UPS logs sweep of Whit

Jason Foster shot 10-for-17 from the floor and 6-for-7 from 3-point range to help push No. 18 Puget Sound past No. 13 Whitworth 95-90 in overtime.

The Loggers (17-4) and Pirates (19-3) are each a half-game behind Lewis and Clark atop the Northwest Conference, with Puget Sound yet to play at L&C.

Foster's final 3-pointer came with 26 seconds left in regulation and gave the Loggers an 83-82 lead (audio clip, KLAY). Jon Young answered with a pair of foul shots to give Whitworth the advantage with 13 seconds left, but Antwan Williams made one of two to send it to overtime. In earlier men's action, Rochester held off No. 16 NYU in front of a standing room-only crowd at the Coles Center in Manhattan as the Yellowjackets remained right behind the UAA leaders with a 58-53 win. Rochester kept pace with No. 11 Wash U and No. 22 Chicago, which each won.

No. 11 NYU continued cooking at home, as the Violets ran away from No. 6 Rochester in the second half of a 77-54 win. Jessica McEntee led all scorers with 21 points and tied for the game high with 14 rebounds. Friday night women's scores.

St. Lawrence rallied from a five-point deficit in the closing minutes against Hamilton by stealing the ball on four consecutive possession. The Saints won 68-63 for their 20th win in a row. No. 2 Bowdoin had little trouble with Tufts, handing the Jumbos their first NESCAC loss behind 13 points from Eileen Flaherty and 12 from Jill Anelauskas. Liz Bondi scored 25 and Gretchen Haehl added 22 as No. 8 DePauw rolled over Hendrix 73-54. Hendrix falls to 18-3. Chicago snapped its four-game losing streak, winning at home 71-60 against Case.

Dan Mueller scored 25 and Dan McSweeney 23 as St. John Fisher outlasted Ithaca 111-99 in quadruple overtime. The Brockport State men won their ninth in a row, beating Potsdam State 92-75. The Golden Eagles could ascend to the top spot in the next East Region rankings with the current number one, St. Lawrence, losing to Hamilton 76-68.
