Silent sleepers

Sure, the only way a team can control its own postseason destiny is to win its conference's automatic bid. But some teams are quietly putting themselves in position for an at-large bid if they can't capture the AQ.

Top-ranked and undefeated, Amherst is basically a tournament lock. But conference mate Trinity (Conn.) isn't too far behind after the Bantams' 72-70 win against Clark. The Bantams are 19-3 with one regular season game left against Amherst before starting conference tournament play the following Saturday.

Alvernia (17-4) may also be a Pool C candidate if they can finish the regular season without a loss. The Crusaders took a big step toward that goal by beating Gwynedd-Mercy 64-61, earning a regular season split with the Griffins. More men's scores.

On the women's side Gustavus Adolphus had just two losses entering tonight but it fell to Concordia-Moorhead 49-46. The Gusties missed five potential game-tying 3-pointers in the closing minutes. Kean (19-3) is tied with two other teams for first in the NJAC, but the Cougars kept a leg up in a potential Pool C race with an 86-81 OT win over Baruch. More women's scores.

The new Top 25 polls are also posted. It's an even week which means Wheaton (Ill.) is ranked again on the men's side. The Thunder have been in and out of the Top 25 for five consecutive weeks. Capital and McDaniel entered the women's poll.
