UW-La Crosse shoots down Tommies

UW-La Crosse center Joe Werner took advantage of Isaac Rosefelt's absence from the lineup and shot 8-for-14 from the floor to help lead the Eagles past No. 4 St. Thomas 62-54.

The Tommies, who lost for the first time this season, led 33-27 early in the second half before UW-La Crosse rattled off a 7-0 run fueled by a steal by Chris Fehrenbach which led to a Werner basket and a Fehrenbach three-pointer. Mike Keating hit a three-pointer to give the Tommies a 36-34 lead, but UW-La Crosse scored the next 10 and held the Tommies at arm's length the rest of the night. Photo gallery

Roosefelt, who averages 16.7 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.0 blocks, did not suit up because of illness.

No. 25 Christopher Newport lost for the second night in a row as Fisk demoted the Captains 72-71. UW-Stout got 14 points from Jerrel Enerson-Matthews to edge Buena Vista in a Las Vegas Desert Shootout matchup of 2006 NCAA Tournament teams.
