Hartwick whitewashed two games from its women's basketball schedules and cancelled a team trip to a Dec. 18-19 tournament in the Virgin Islands.
According to the Oneonta (N.Y.) Daily Star, the school canceled the trip because of disciplinary reasons. Thomas More sports information director J. Ameer Rasheed told the newspaper "Something happened on campus, and the president pulled (Hartwick) from the tournament."
"It involved underage drinking," Hartwick president Richard Miller said of a November incident that prompted the team to cancel the trip. "One of the student-athletes was hospitalized because of excessive drinking. It happened in one of the housing units on campus, but I can't say which (unit)."
Miller told the newspaper he could not identify the players involved, but that enough women's basketball team members were present to consider it a team violation.
Hartwick was scheduled to play Thomas More, as well as Doane, an NAIA school from Nebraska.
